Anyone may be an Associate Member. However, ATEK does not condone illegal private teaching. Any members caught involve with teaching illegally (i.e., receiving or giving monetary remuneration for performing teaching services without a proper visa for such services rendered) will lose their Associate Member status.

Good Faith Affidavit – ALL APPLICANTS MUST SIGN THIS AFFIDAVIT

I agree with and support the Association's mission statement as written in its bylaws and I agree to follow all the rules the Association adopts. I am not joining the Association in order to harm it in any way or carry out any agenda counter to its mission. I recognize that filling out and signing this membership application constitutes a contract between myself and the Association for Teachers of English in Korea and I pledge to keep the agreements made in this paragraph.

Section 1: Basic Information

Anyone who supports the mission of the Association may join. The information asked for in this section is confidential and will at no time be shared without the member’s explicit consent.

Section 2: Good Faith Affidavit

This section protects the Association from acts of malice or ill intent by those who may wish to harm it. The affidavit is designed as protection from deliberate and concerted efforts to undermine the Association and is not meant to limit speech made in good faith by members.

Section 3: General Membership Eligibility Affidavit

General membership in the Association is limited to educators who teach English or primarily through the medium of English in the Republic of Korea. This ensures that the Association will be governed by teachers, for teachers.

It is the responsibility of the Provincial/Metropolitan Association membership officer to verify the eligibility of members for General Membership. This will require inspection of an Alien Registration Card or other official document, such as an employment contract.
