-one Vice Chair from all 16 PMAs may serve on the National Council as Chair of the Leadership Development Committee. In order to be Chair of this Committee, you must be elected by the officers on this Committee. Please email

to initiate elections.
-The purpose of the Leadership Development Committee is to discuss leadership and team development issues and to create and document permanent tools for officers to resolve them. This Committee is designed to analyze the effectiveness of leaders in our organization and to provide both PMA and Committee Chairs with support in managing officers in their PMA.
-Chairs and Vice Chairs are the lead organizers* at the local level and oversee the implementation of the agenda of the President at the local level
-Chairs oversee the development of officers and their activities at the local level. (This primarily includes organizing an activity once per month focused on the activity of a vacant role. For example, organizing a volunteer activity to recruit a Volunteer Officer from the attendees of the event. Similarly, you might hold a meeting about Hagwon Issues to recruit someone passionate about studying and writing about the changes to and issues in the Hagwon Industry.)
-For further clarification on the difference between the roles at the local level, the Vice Chair assists the Chair with the Chairs duties in a multitude of ways. You can share these duties as you see fit. The relationship can have defined limits or fluid limits, and this may change over time according to ability or the rapport developed with specific officers on the Council or even other bodies of the Association. Some Chairs are great at focusing efforts on developing existing officers, and some are more flexible and perhaps might be better at organizing activities to recruit officers for vacant roles. Sometimes schedule conflicts arise, so you can be there for each other in those cases, too.
-strong communication, teamwork, and organization skills, both verbally and via email
-strong work ethic based on hard work, reliability and efficiency
-maturity, honesty and the ability to see challenges as new opportunities
-neutrality and the fair treatment of everyone on the council is important, and this also means (a) offering help to but encouraging autonomy with active officers and (b) encouraging inactive officers to become more active with the things expected of them (each officer should generally be contributing something of value to the organization approximately once per month including organizing events and or writing articles for the newsletter or website but not including merely attending officer meetings or discussing issues with officers)
-an understanding of Korean culture and a strong desire to learn more about it, particularly in regards to professional settings
-on behalf of the President, acts as the primary liaison with local gu-offices, their representatives, and their mayors (atek.or.kr/gu) as well as other major and minor organizations in your province (strong level of communication with the President is needed here)
-leadership experience required, preferrably in other professional organizations or student associations
-event organizing experience required, fundraising experience preferred
-enthusiastic and positive attitude towards organizing events
-serving as a role model for others in ATEK, you have the ability to learn quickly to be able to implement and adapt ideas that are relevant to ATEK’s cause
*NOTE: the usage of the term "lead organizer" should not be misinterpreted. ATEK is not a union, and it would not be in the best interest of members for it to become one.
