What is an Ethics Officer?


-expertise and experience in following Robert's Rules of Order

-acts as the facilitator of local council meetings

-helps ensure that Local bylaws remain in compliance with National bylaws

-acting as the conscience of the Association, helps educate officers on how their actions may conflict with the bylaws

-if futher action is needed, this officer helps to manage and evaluate disputes among members at all levels

-the role is often a 'reactive' role often dealing with very difficult situations and decisions that may lead to disciplinary action

-the Ethics Committee is independent from both the National Executive and National Council

-Ethics Officers give advice when asked about ethical queries from officers, members, and other Bodies of the Association

What is an Ethics Chair?


-the Ethics Chair is a National Officer of the Association with a horizontal relationship with the National Leaders of the Association. 

-the Ethics Chair liaises with the NE and NC about Ethical issues on behalf of the Committee

-the Ethics Chair serves in a voting capacity on the Ethics Committee

-the Ethics Chair is only advisory when in the NC and NE meetings

-the Ethics Chair and Ethics Committee has binding power for discplinary and unethical actions of officers and members of the association as conferred on the Ethics Committee by the national bylaws as voted by the national general membership

-result of ethical disclipnary action can result in up to five years removal from membership from the association

*In order to serve as the Committee Chair, you must be nominated by the President and approved by the National Council.
