Welcome to the Gyeongnam Provincial Association
About our area
Gyeongnam is the southeastern most province in South Korea in what was known as the Gaya Kingdom. Changwon, Korea’s only planned city, is the capitol city, and in cases of war is the emergency capitol of Korea. Other major population centers include Masan, Gimhae, Jinhae, Miryang, Geoje, Yangsan, Jinju, and Namhae.
The area is known for its temperate weather, beautiful landscape, rich history, festivals, and its colorful local dialect. Foreigners and Koreans alike flock to Jinhae in the spring for the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. Jinju has the largest Lantern Festival in Korea, and Miryang has stunning views of fall colors. The Gimhae Pottery Festival and the Gaya Cultural Festival in the fall also feature traditional theatre and local cuisine. The Gimhae International Airport serves both Gyeongnam and Busan and has flights to the most popular Asian destinations.
Teachers who return to Gyeongnam cite its mountains, beaches, low cost of living, and convenient access to the metro areas of Busan, Ulsan, and Daegu without having to live in a dense urban area. Residents enjoy hiking the numerous trails, motorcycle treks on winding mountain passes, and camping most of the year in Jirisan National Park.
We are actively working to develop services for local members. If you have suggestions please write to any of the local officers.
