Get involved in your PMA! Gyeongbuk needs members to volunteer for the following positions:
1) Chairperson
The Chairperson will act to ensure that members' needs are being met. The Chair will organize community activities such as volunteer drives. The Chair will represent the Association to local communities and media. The Chair will also work to resolve internal disputes. The Chair will serve as head of the local's Coordinating Committee.
2) Membership Coordinator
The Membership Coordinator will be responsible for seeing that members receive the benefits and services that they are entitled to. The Membership Coordinator will organize recruiting efforts, assist members in securing community services, and attend to the general well-being of members. The Membership Coordinator will serve as Chairperson in her or his absence.
3) Professional Standards Coordinator
The Professional Standards Coordinator will act to promote the status of member teachers. The Professional Standards Coordinator will work to educate members of employment standards and the remedies available to teachers who are being unfairly treated by employers. The Professional Standards Coordinator will be responsible for monitoring labour practices and for alerting the community to unscrupulous employers. The Professional Standards Coordinator will act as a resource for members facing difficulties at work.
4)Welfare Coordinator
The Welfare Coordinator shall seek to improve the welfare of members by providing support and information.
5) General Secretary
The General Secretary will promote the smooth internal functioning of the association. The General Secretary will educate members of their rights and obligations as members. The General Secretary will serve as a "democracy enforcer," promoting transparency and accountability within the association.
Gyeongsangbuk-do
Association for Teachers of English in Korea Organizing Committee
Article I — Mission
The mission of the Gyeongsangbuk-do
Association for Teachers of English in Korea shall be to support the
goals and mission of the Association for Teachers of English in Korea
(hereafter referred to as the “National Association,”) through our
local organization.
Article II – Nature of Entity
The Gyeongsangbuk-do Association
for Teachers of English in Korea is hereby established in the Republic
of Korea and all relevant jurisdictions as a local office of the Association
for Teachers of English in Korea.
Article III – Relationship with National Association
This Association is bound to all decisions, policies, and rules of the National Association, as executed by its Council and/or Board of Directors.
Article IV — Membership
To become a
member of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Association for Teachers of English in
Korea, one must first (or simultaneously) become a General or Associate
Member of the National Association. Associate membership shall be open
to all residents of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. General membership shall
be open to all those legally employed as teachers of English or as teachers
delivering curricular content primarily through an English-language
medium, in accordance with the Bylaws of the National Association.
Article V — Bill of Rights for Members
1. All General Members of the
Gyeongsangbuk-do Association for Teachers of English in Korea shall
have the right to vote, to hold office, and to secure fair consideration
for governance appointment in the Gyeongsangbuk-do Association. Voting
in any Gyeongsangbuk-do Association election may be done either in person
(at a scheduled Association meeting), by mail, or by electronic means.
It is expected that Gyeongsangbuk-do Association leadership shall take
every reasonable effort to secure the maximum opportunity for member
participation in voting.
